FORENSIC SCIENCE ACTIVITIES OF THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH CENTER OF INDEPENDENT FORENSIC OF THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE OF UKRAINE

Abstract

The article analyzes the current challenges and areas of activity of the newly established Scientific Research Center of Independent Forensic of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine (SRCIF), highlighting its role in strengthening justice, reforming the system of forensic support, and integrating into the European space. Based on the analysis of scientific contributions by researchers, forensic activities are considered as a multifaceted field encompassing three classical components: the organization and conduct of forensic examinations, scientific research, and international cooperation. The expert activities aim to ensure objective and independent investigations in cases of public significance. Priority expert areas conducted by SRCIFE include construction and technical expertise, commodity research, computer and telecommunications technical expertise, video and audio recording examination, handwriting analysis, linguistic expertise, technical document examination, psychological expertise, and others. The scientific direction includes the development and implementation of innovative methodologies, an interdisciplinary approach, and participation in international projects, which contribute to international recognition and integration into the European Research Area. The article pays particular attention to SRCIFE’s international cooperation with European institutions such as EUAM, CEPOL, the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, and expert institutions of the Baltic States. This cooperation focuses on harmonizing national legislation with the EU acquis and integrating forensic activities into the European domain. The research findings emphasize the importance of SRCIFE’s forensic activities in ensuring the rule of law, combating corruption, adapting to global security challenges, and contributing to sustainable development and strengthening democratic institutions in Ukraine.
